We are seeking an experienced Director of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence to lead and support global initiatives in Data Science and AI for People & Organization (P&O) and Corporate Functions. This role focuses on leading initiatives within P&O and Corporate Functions through collaboration with a range of stakeholders. As a key leader in the organization, you will promote automating full processes and creating holistic AI applications-making and data-driven practices, fostering operational efficiency and innovation across Novartis. Focus is on Generative AI.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development and implementation of a roadmap to enhance People & Organization (P&O) and Corporate Functions using effective data management, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence.
- Apply innovative problem-solving approaches to generate measurable value through advanced analytics and AI-driven solutions.
- Coordinate and prioritize team resources to support high-impact initiatives. Facilitate innovation by fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the data science community.
- Manage resources proactively, anticipate challenges, align stakeholders’ expectations, mitigate risks, and implement solutions effectively.
- Provide agile guidance for urgent, unplanned problems, leveraging exploratory analyses and tailored solutions. Refine the organization’s AI adoption strategy to enhance decision-making and workflows.
- Share findings through internal presentations and external engagements (e.g., conferences), positioning Novartis as a leader in Data Science and AI.
- Act as a champion for innovation and data-driven practices, promoting cross-functional alignment across P&O and Corporate Functions.
- Lead AI initiatives by embedding scalable and actionable solutions to address business needs and accelerate innovation within Novartis’s operations. Deliver actionable insights and designs using methods like machine learning, deep learning, and cognitive computing and AI
- Collaborate with teams to develop “proof of concepts” and frameworks that streamline decision-making and drive business outcomes.

What you’ll bring to the role:
- 12+ years of relevant experience in Data Science, Machine Learning (ML), and advanced analytics. In depth experience with lates GenAI application developments. Demonstrated success in contributing to AI and data science initiatives, with experience delivering impactful solutions at scale.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing GenAI applications using cutting-edge technologies, including autonomous agents and multimodal embedding pipelines.
- Advanced knowledge of data management, data strategy, governance frameworks, data quality, and master data management.
- Ability to influence and align stakeholders at multiple organizational levels to execute data and AI-driven strategies effectively. Proven ability to inspire teams, foster collaboration, and instill a culture of innovation and improvement across functions.
- Proven track record of deploying GenAI solutions into production environments, ideally leveraging Microsoft Azure services such as Azure AI Foundry, Data Insights (DI), and Azure AI Search. Strong leadership experience managing cross-functional teams composed of GenAI data scientists, Azure engineers, and frontend developers.
Desirable requirements:
- A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a quantitative or technical discipline such as Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
